Surat al-Najm (The Star) - ٣٥ - سورة النجم

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes).
নক্ষত্রের কসম, যখন অস্তমিত হয়।
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred.
তোমাদের সংগী পথভ্রষ্ট হননি এবং বিপথগামীও হননি।
وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ
Nor does he speak of (his own) desire.
এবং প্রবৃত্তির তাড়নায় কথা বলেন না।
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ
It is only a Revelation revealed.
কোরআন ওহী, যা প্রত্যাদেশ হয়।
عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَىٰ
He has been taught (this Qur'ân) by one mighty in power [Jibril (Gabriel)]
তাঁকে শিক্ষা দান করে এক শক্তিশালী ফেরেশতা,
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَىٰ
One free from any defect in body and mind, then he (Jibril — Gabriel in the real shap as created by Allah) rose and became stable.
সহজাত শক্তিসম্পন্ন, সে নিজ আকৃতিতে প্রকাশ পেল।
وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ
While he [Jibril (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon,
উর্ধ্ব দিগন্তে,
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
Then he [Jibril (Gabriel)] approached and came closer,
অতঃপর নিকটবর্তী হল ও ঝুলে গেল।
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer,
তখন দুই ধনুকের ব্যবধান ছিল অথবা আরও কম।
فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَىٰ
So (Allâh) revealed to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrail (Gabriel) A.S.] whatever He revealed.
তখন আল্লাহ তাঁর দাসের প্রতি যা প্রত্যাদেশ করবার, তা প্রত্যাদেশ করলেন।
مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰ
The (Prophet's) heart lied not in what he (Muhammad SAW) saw.
রসূলের অন্তর মিথ্যা বলেনি যা সে দেখেছে।
أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'râj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW to the seven heavens)]
তোমরা কি বিষয়ে বিতর্ক করবে যা সে দেখেছে?
وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibril (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time).
নিশ্চয় সে তাকে আরেকবার দেখেছিল,
عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ
Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (a lote-tree of the utmost boundary over the seventh heaven beyond which none can pass).
সিদরাতুলমুন্তাহার নিকটে,
عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ
Near it is the Paradise of Abode.
যার কাছে অবস্থিত বসবাসের জান্নাত।
إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ
When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it!
যখন বৃক্ষটি দ্বারা আচ্ছন্ন হওয়ার, তদ্দ্বারা আচ্ছন্ন ছিল।
مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond the limit (ordained for it).
তাঁর দৃষ্টিবিভ্রম হয় নি এবং সীমালংঘনও করেনি।
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَىٰ
Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allâh).
নিশ্চয় সে তার পালনকর্তার মহান নিদর্শনাবলী অবলোকন করেছে।
أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّىٰ
Have you then considered Al-Lât, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs) .
তোমরা কি ভেবে দেখেছ লাত ও ওযযা সম্পর্কে।
وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ
And Manât (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third?
এবং তৃতীয় আরেকটি মানাত সম্পর্কে?
أَلَكُمُ الذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ الْأُنْثَىٰ
Is it for you the males and for Him the females?
পুত্র-সন্তান কি তোমাদের জন্যে এবং কন্যা-সন্তান আল্লাহর জন্য?
تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰ
That indeed is a division most unfair!
এমতাবস্থায় এটা তো হবে খুবই অসংগত বন্টন।
إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا أَسْمَاءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ ۚ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى الْأَنْفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنْ رَبِّهِمُ الْهُدَىٰ
They are but names which you have named — you and your fathers — for which Allâh has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord!
এগুলো কতগুলো নাম বৈ নয়, যা তোমরা এবং তোমাদের পূর্ব-পুরুষদের রেখেছ। এর সমর্থনে আল্লাহ কোন দলীল নাযিল করেননি। তারা অনুমান এবং প্রবৃত্তিরই অনুসরণ করে। অথচ তাদের কাছে তাদের পালনকর্তার পক্ষ থেকে পথ নির্দেশ এসেছে।
أَمْ لِلْإِنْسَانِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
Or shall man have what he wishes?
মানুষ যা চায়, তাই কি পায়?
فَلِلَّهِ الْآخِرَةُ وَالْأُولَىٰ
But to Allâh belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world).
অতএব, পরবর্তী ও পূর্ববর্তী সব মঙ্গলই আল্লাহর হাতে।
وَكَمْ مِنْ مَلَكٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لَا تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَرْضَىٰ
And there are many angels in the heavens, whose intercession will avail nothing except after Allâh has given leave for whom He wills and is pleased with.
আকাশে অনেক ফেরেশতা রয়েছে। তাদের কোন সুপারিশ ফলপ্রসূ হয় না যতক্ষণ আল্লাহ যার জন্যে ইচ্ছা ও যাকে পছন্দ করেন, অনুমতি না দেন।
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ الْأُنْثَىٰ
Verily, those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names.
যারা পরকালে বিশ্বাস করে না, তারাই ফেরেশতাকে নারীবাচক নাম দিয়ে থাকে।
وَمَا لَهُمْ بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا
But they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and verily, guess is no substitute for the truth.
অথচ এ বিষয়ে তাদের কোন জ্ঞান নেই। তারা কেবল অনুমানের উপর চলে। অথচ সত্যের ব্যাপারে অনুমান মোটেই ফলপ্রসূ নয়।
فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْ مَنْ تَوَلَّىٰ عَنْ ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
Therefore withdraw (O Muhammad SAW) from him who turns away from Our Reminder (this Qur'ân) and desires nothing but the life of this world.
অতএব যে আমার স্মরণে বিমুখ এবং কেবল পার্থিব জীবনই কামনা করে তার তরফ থেকে আপনি মুখ ফিরিয়ে নিন।
ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اهْتَدَىٰ
That is what they could reach of knowledge. Verily, your Lord it is He Who knows best him who goes astray from His Path, and He knows best him who receives guidance.
তাদের জ্ঞানের পরিধি এ পর্যন্তই। নিশ্চয় আপনার পালনকর্তা ভাল জানেন, কে তাঁর পথ থেকে বিচ্যুত হয়েছে এবং তিনিই ভাল জানেন কে সুপথপ্রাপ্ত হয়েছে।
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا بِالْحُسْنَى
And to Allâh belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, that He may requite those who do evil with that which they have done (i.e. punish them in Hell), and reward those who do good, with what is best (i.e. Paradise).
নভোমন্ডল ও ভূমন্ডলে যা কিছু আছে, সবই আল্লাহর, যাতে তিনি মন্দকর্মীদেরকে তাদের কর্মের প্রতিফল দেন এবং সৎকর্মীদেরকে দেন ভাল ফল।
الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنْشَأَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنْتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَىٰ
Those who avoid great sins (see the Qur'ân, Verses: 6:152,153) and Al-Fawâhish (illegal sexual intercourse) except the small faults, verily, your Lord is of vast forgiveness. He knows you well when He created you from the earth (Adam), and when you were fetuses in your mothers' wombs. So ascribe not purity to yourselves. He knows best him who fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him [i.e. those who are Al-Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2)].
যারা বড় বড় গোনাহ ও অশ্লীলকার্য থেকে বেঁচে থাকে ছোটখাট অপরাধ করলেও নিশ্চয় আপনার পালনকর্তার ক্ষমা সুদূর বিস্তৃত। তিনি তোমাদের সম্পর্কে ভাল জানেন, যখন তিনি তোমাদেরকে সৃষ্টি করেছেন মৃত্তিকা থেকে এবং যখন তোমরা মাতৃগর্ভে কচি শিশু ছিলে। অতএব তোমরা আত্নপ্রশংসা করো না। তিনি ভাল জানেন কে সংযমী।
أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ
Did you (O Muhammad SAW) observe him who turned away (from Islâm).
আপনি কি তাকে দেখেছেন, যে মুখ ফিরিয়ে নেয়।
وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰ
And gave a little, then stopped (giving)?
এবং দেয় সামান্যই ও পাষাণ হয়ে যায়।
أَعِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰ
Is with him the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees?
তার কাছে কি অদৃশ্যের জ্ঞান আছে যে, সে দেখে?
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
Or is he not informed with what is in the Pages (Scripture) of Mûsa (Moses),
তাকে কি জানানো হয়নি যা আছে মূসার কিতাবে,
وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي وَفَّىٰ
And of Ibrâhim (Abraham) who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that (Allâh ordered him to do or convey),
এবং ইব্রাহীমের কিতাবে, যে তার দায়িত্ব পালন করেছিল?
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ
That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another.
কিতাবে এই আছে যে, কোন ব্যক্তি কারও গোনাহ নিজে বহন করবে না।
وَأَنْ لَيْسَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad) ,
এবং মানুষ তাই পায়, যা সে করে,
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ
And that his deeds will be seen,
তার কর্ম শীঘ্রই দেখা হবে।
ثُمَّ يُجْزَاهُ الْجَزَاءَ الْأَوْفَىٰ
Then he will be recompensed with a full and the best recompense
অতঃপর তাকে পূর্ণ প্রতিদান দেয়া হবে।
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ
And that to your Lord (Allâh) is the End (Return of everything).
তোমার পালনকর্তার কাছে সবকিছুর সমাপ্তি,
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
And that it is He (Allâh) Who makes (whom He wills) laugh, and makes (whom He wills) weep.
এবং তিনিই হাসান ও কাঁদান
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
And that it is He (Allâh) Who causes death and gives life.
এবং তিনিই মারেন ও বাঁচান,
وَأَنَّهُ خَلَقَ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ
And that He (Allâh) creates the pairs, male and female.
এবং তিনিই সৃষ্টি করেন যুগল-পুরুষ ও নারী।
مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ
From Nutfah (drops of semen — male and female discharges) when it is emitted.
একবিন্দু বীর্য থেকে যখন স্খলিত করা হয়।
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ
And that upon Him (Allâh) is another bringing forth (Resurrection).
পুনরুত্থানের দায়িত্ব তাঁরই,
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ
And that it is He (Allâh) Who gives much or a little (of wealth and contentment)
এবং তিনিই ধনবান করেন ও সম্পদ দান করেন।
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعْرَىٰ
And that He (Allâh) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship);
তিনি শিরা নক্ষত্রের মালিক।
وَأَنَّهُ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا الْأُولَىٰ
And that it is He (Allâh) Who destroyed the former 'Ad (people),
তিনিই প্রথম আদ সম্প্রদায়কে ধ্বংস করেছেন,
وَثَمُودَ فَمَا أَبْقَىٰ
And Thamûd (people). He spared none of them.
এবং সামুদকেও; অতঃপর কাউকে অব্যহতি দেননি।
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ
And the people of Nûh (Noah) aforetime, verily, they were more unjust and more rebellious and transgressing [in disobeying Allâh and His Messenger Nûh (Noah) A.S.]
এবং তাদের পূর্বে নূহের সম্প্রদায়কে, তারা ছিল আরও জালেম ও অবাধ্য।
وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ
And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lut (Lot) was sent].
তিনিই জনপদকে শুন্যে উত্তোলন করে নিক্ষেপ করেছেন।
فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones)
অতঃপর তাকে আচ্ছন্ন করে নেয় যা আচ্ছন্ন করার।
فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt
অতঃপর তুমি তোমার পালনকর্তার কোন অনুগ্রহকে মিথ্যা বলবে?
هَٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِنَ النُّذُرِ الْأُولَىٰ
This (Muhammad SAW) is a warner (Messenger) of the (series of) warners (Messengers) of old
অতীতের সতর্ককারীদের মধ্যে সে-ও একজন সতর্ককারী।
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
None besides Allâh can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it).
আল্লাহ ব্যতীত কেউ একে প্রকাশ করতে সক্ষম নয়।
أَفَمِنْ هَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
Do you then wonder at this recitation (the Qur'ân)?
তোমরা কি এই বিষয়ে আশ্চর্যবোধ করছ?
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
And you laugh at it and weep not,
এবং হাসছ-ক্রন্দন করছ না?
وَأَنْتُمْ سَامِدُونَ
Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing etc.).
তোমরা ক্রীড়া-কৌতুক করছ,
